Dealing with Repetive Behavior

Published by jmoll at 9:38 am under Autism Edit This

It is hard dealing with the repetitive behavior that many people with autism have.

My son is very repetitive, as are many autistic people.  They have the need to follow a very rigid daily routine.

He starts off every morning with repeating the word “oatmeal” and he will not stop until he gets his oatmeal for breakfast.

Then he knows he gets ready for school, so he will repeat “bye-bye” until he leaves, which is usually hours later.

This repetitive behavior can get very annoying; I cope with it by trying to redirect his attention to another activity that he enjoys.

I would love to hear ways you cope with this behavior, please send me your ideas!
